Guruji, Why bad things happen to good people? Thank you for a detailed reply with examples etc.

We define people as good because they perform actions that are noble and we define events as bad because it brings some disruption to their lives. It is important to know “things happen” and we make it good or bad. There was a good man in the city and a good farmer in the village. On a certain day, the farmer was harvesting so he did not want it to rain, but the city man had his well absolutely dry, so he badly needed a rain. When it rained, one thought it was a good thing and the other thought it was a bad thing to happen. On a different day, the city man’s daughter was getting married, so he prayed no rain and the farmer had just sowed seeds, so he prayed for rain. Again when it rained, one felt it was a good thing and the other thought it was bad. So events happen to all people. What we need is to develop an attitude to see goodness in everything and when the “not so good things” happen, have the wisdom to know, nothing is permanent in this world. Hari Om.
