swamiji, pranamam. I have one doubt what we do in our current life good or bad will decide to the future birth. As l heard that life after death will be based on this. in garudapuran by Veda vyasa all punishment are written for the soul. is this a true fact hat soul needs to suffer a lot for getting another body.

Once the soul with its vasanas leaves a body, it remains in the disembodied state for varying periods of time before acquiring a new body. What the soul experiences at that time can be pleasurable or unpleasant. That is what Hinduism says about the soul being in Swarga/Naraka. If Satwic tendencies predominate in the vasanas the soul remains in a pleasant state until it acquires a new body, but if thamasic tendencies predominate the soul experiences a lot of difficulties. That is the “punishment” to the soul as described in Puranas. Puranas give exaggerated and dramatic descriptions to make people realize a tatwam and should not be taken in a literal sense. Hari Om.
