Dear Babu,
The Earth’s magnetic lines of force are clockwise. With every Pradakshina done clockwise, one gets closer and closer to the inner Self, attaining oneness with God and thus deriving more and more mental energy.
(It is like fixing a screw on to a wall.)
It is not the number of Pradakshinas, but the frame of mind with which one does Pradakshina, that matters. Any number of Pradakshinas done without mental involvement and correct understanding of its implications will not serve the purpose.
The purpose of going to temple is to divert our mind at least for a while towards the supreme energy within us and to reassure ourselves that the Chaithanyam in the idol and the Chaithanyam within us are one and the same. After the darshan, when we sit in the conducive atmosphere of the temple for some time, it helps us to conserve the spiritual energy derived so and to meditate upon the Chaithanyam within.
Hari Om!
