Hari Om and Pranam – When somebody dies people say RIP whether it is in Whatsapp group or any such social media. Since our vedas as well Gita says Soul will not rest as it is go to another body, does such RIP is right or wrong to say. How can soul rest in peace when it travels from one body to another?

RIP is a usage alien to Hindu Tradition. We should say “May the soul progress and merge with Paramathma”. All our death rites are done with this prayer. In Semitic religions, especially Christianity, they believe that the body and the spirit will rest until the judgement day comes. So they say “RIP”. But for us the body returns to the Panchabhootas and the soul travels to the new body. So there is no “REST in peace”. Hari Om.
