Swamiji pranamam, so many times we say that we should try to make others happy, that will make us happy and then we also say we should not depend on others for our happiness, how is that possible really. So many times we are dependant on people especially those close to us for our happiness, sometimes our minds become literally like beggars waiting for other people’s reactions, acceptance or approval. when we don’t get it even from our spouse after a hard day of work sometimes we feel dejected. they might be busy or mind is pre occupied with something. The truth is many know happiness is within us but how do we stop expecting it and getting upset when we don’t get it from people especially those close to us.There are days when nobody will speak a good word with us despite our work so how do we not let frustration or negativity come into us. Does it take any particular spiritual practice to be followed other than just understanding the truths of life intellectually. How do we handle this dependance tendency in us. Thank you so much Swamiji for your guidance.

The first step as you pointed out is to look at life both intellectually and emotionally as needed. We all want,….. but to what extend do we give? Happiness in fact only comes when you give selflessly and not expect anything in return. What you give is your strength and what you expect is your weakness. Love you spouse, your co-workers and your family unconditionally and give them good thoughts, words and support. Love and care will be returned sooner or later. Even if it is not, you will be happy about how glorious, committed and graceful you were to them. Bitterness about anything only makes life harder. A joyful person is a pleasure for anyone around. Make yourself joyful and spread your fragrance to the ones who deserve. Hari Om.
