pranamam swamiji as part of ramayana month there is a tradition in Kerala is sheepothi vekkal I need to to know the significance of sheepothivekkal in karkidakam. I asked so many persons. no body gives the correct answer. can you please tell me how to do that also..

It is important to understand “Seepothi” is a colloquial equivalent of “Sree Bhagavathi”. In the olden days Karkidakam being the time of monsoon and rains, meant poverty, illnesses and even starvation in Kerala which was predominantly an agricultural society. “Jeshta/ Chetta is the older sister of Sree Bhagavathi and people thought the presence of Jeshta(big sister) brought all the bad luck in their lives. So they would do things to ward off Jeshta from their houses and keep Sree Bhagavathi there instead. “Sree Bhagavathi veykkal”eventually became “Seepothi veykal”. Hari Om.
