Pranam Swamiji, I have heard that Krishna had 16008 wives. Tatwikam ayi it may have another meaning but since we know Krishna did take human form, I ask why did he marry so many women? As a woman I find it very difficult to accept the fact that a man had so many wives, that too a man who is supposed to be God in human form. Rukmini was his first wife, she rebelled against her family and married Krishna. Krishna also acknowledged her love and came to her rescue. Then why did he marry other women thereafter? Imagine the plight of Rukmini each time Krishna walked in with a new wife? Nothing hurts or humiliates a woman more than when her husband takes another wife. The society that Rukmini lived in had no regard for a woman’s feelings – neither her brother Rukmi who forcibly wanted to get her married to his friend Shishupal nor her husband Krishna thought about her feelings. I find it very disturbing as a woman. Why do we eulogise this act of Krishna instead of condemning it? Can you justify Krishna’s act of marrying so many women? Why did he not refuse to take another wife saying I am married to Rukmini, I love her and will not marry again?
