Swamiji, my son is in class 10. He is very stubborn and arrogant at times. He is bright but is not interested in studies, he is too lazy to study subjects. He is not at all systematic. Because of this attitude he is facing lot of problems in school and at home. We all are very upset because of this. He is capable of doing well but because of his friend circle and his laziness he is unable to achieve good results. When i met an astrologer he also told that his horoscope also tells that he is capable but very lazy. He said we have to struggle a lot till he becones 26.He doesn’t like being adviced,he is getting irritated when we advice him.Can you please advice me as to how i should handle him.

A lot of parents find it difficult to handle their teenage kids. What we need to understand is that a teenager is someone who is struggling to deal with the changes his own body and mind is going through. He is struggling to establish himself as an individual, he wishes for respect and appreciation, not advice or blames. You have to ignore the little tantrums he throws and consistently make him feel you are there to love and support him. Do things that he enjoys with him. Be his friend, don’t hesitate to hug and kiss him and create a dependance on his parents. Slowly he will open up to you and listen to you too. There is a saying…..if your child feels loved when he is 5-10, he will love you when he is 15-20. Hari Om.
