Dear Swamiji, As said mantras are powerful and energized. On 16th day of mothers demise a dhanam is given to a brahmin chanting mantra – malayalam meaning of it is “ente ammayude janmanthara dhuritha nivrithikkai , jan ee dhanam angakku nalkunnu”. If mantra is powerful and energized, the receiver has to take over all karmic burden of his mother including past lifes. The important thing to realize is that the danam is made to a Brahmin or a person with Brahma Njanam. If the receiver is truly a Brahmin at the level of his awareness he will be able to take some of the karmic burden of another person without increasing his. There are a lot of great masters who have done this. Unfortunately most of these rituals are now done without understanding the purpose or significance. Hari Om.
