Dear Swamiji, Panja pandavar one day told their mother – ” look what we have bought – without looking mother Kunthi said – share it equally between you five “. Then only they understood the mistake, but for keep up mothers verdict, they married Panjali and lived each one with her each year. This happened in Dwapara yugam, some 5000 years ago – ie; only 50 generation ago and proof of hasthinapuram is still there in sea in Gujarat. So this is not a story. We respect elder brothers wife as mother. Then how Pancha Pandavar lived with her each year. One get family life in 5 years only. In between if a child is born, this period will further extended. If this is a real story, where is the dharmic value of this. Pls advs.

We cannot judge the practices of a society 5000 years ago, from our social perspectives today. Those days multiple husbands or multiple wives were acceptable in an attempt to maintain larger institutions of the family. It was also a time when family members had to stay together as much as possible to support each other. Even today we see human interactions are more in villages than cities because there is a lot of interdependence for survival. So society accepted such practices. What we need to learn from these stories is how to transform our lives positively. Can we support our brothers and sisters and live in harmony with everyone? Can we respect our mother’s orders and obey her? Can we accept the social rules even when it causes us some personal inconveniences? Can we give up our preferences for common good? Then these stories have a lot of value in our lives. Hari Om.
