Dear Sunil,
Gingelly oil can purify the atmosphere from unwanted bacteria.
Similarly coconut oil and ghee purify the air.
Breaking a coconut symbolizes surrendering the ego and sublimating at the feet of the Lord.
The ego itself will be offering to the Lord.
Rice represents the Prasadam of the Lord.
The white rice (sweet rice) implies that one should be able to see the events in life as the sweet Prasadam from the Lord.
