Pranam Swamiji, My christian friend asked me ” why hindu devadas wearing costly jewlls, golds, diamonds etcc..and wearing costly dresses. They shud be simple as they represent poor people”. I said our devadas are fulfillment of all knowledge including physical. They hv all materials and cant find fault wearing that. i asked whr they respect a person who is not taking bath quite a long time and wearing shabby dresses even if they hv. Hari Ohm. Unless we study our scriptures properly ,we will be confused about our own customs and religion. First of all you have to tell your friend to ask their religious leaders like fathers to wear simple dress and and to live in a simple house rather than in big mansions. Even Jesus preferred simple chapels to huge ones.
Now coming to the ornaments decorating deities, these ornaments are for the devotee to develop single pointed concentration, devotion and surrender. then our poojarees decorate the deities to attract the mind of devotees to the decorated form which will help the devotee to develop the habitual thinking of divine manthras . This will lead the devotees to develop feeling divinity within. Decorations are meant for high attraction which will ultimately lead to the awareness of divinity within. Remember, birthday cakes or gifts are covered with attractive wrapper.
