Dear swamiji, every day except during periods , I chant panchakshari 108 times…..the strength it gives during those days is immense….but my amma won’t let me chant it during my periods…so without the japa for 7 days makes me feel all negative….is it ok if I chant Om namah shivaya during my periods…..this has become habit of me to chant without which I cannot function well…please guide me

Hari Ohm .There is no restrictions for chanting Lord’s name ,rather our holy texts insist us to chant Lord’s names always ,irrespective of our body condition. Bhagawath Geetha sloka 7 of chapter 7 clarifies this. Also please refer to Harinama Keerthanam where it is specifically mentioned that a lady can chant Lord’s names always. Chanting of Lord’s name purifies the mind and impurities of the body will not affect the mind while chanting.
