Respected Swamiji, I am an ardent devotee of yours and I derive lot of inspiration from your talks. You have adequately explained the need for us to live in the present and accept the result of our endeavours as God’s dispensation. However one key issue is not clear. In today’s working world however well u perform your work needs to get noticed for you to get ahead. Similarly if your thought does not go towrds acquiring certain things like a house one is likely to be left homeless in old age. So is it wrong to be ambitious or to wish to have something material like a house. Do such feelings clash with your teachings or with what is stated in the Bhagvad Gita or the Bhagvatham. If being ambitious or wishing for something is not wrong how does one go about it?

Dear Vasant,
With out desires we can’t live our life.
Life is stimulated or propelled by desire to have a bright, healthy and wealthy future.
Our sages never discouraged such ambitious mind.
In Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna says “MAM ANUSMARA and UDHYA CHA” meaning, remember or surrender to me and develop a bright life by bringing out the best in you.
Our sages are cautious about our negatively reacting mind.
When our life does not turn as we desire, we should not fall into negative reactions.
It will lead to many mental and physical diseases.
In such situations you have to say, “I deserve only this much; that is why God has given me this much. Oh Lord! I will not complain and cry for the result. I will work with more inspiration and positive attitude, with a smiling face”.
Such a life is really a spiritual life. To develop this, you have to practice regular Sadhana.
