Respected Swamy Ji, I have a question with respect to performing death ceremonies. In your CD you have mentioned that doing these rituals is that we are not allowing the souls to get liberated by performing these rites. I read one article in the internet where it quotes as follows. Please gove your advise if this si correct: Following verse, regarding people who do not perform Shraddha, in the holy text Gita is insightful ?????? ????? ??????? ??????????????????? – Shrimadbhagwatgita 1.42 Meaning: Due to the nonperformance of rituals like pinda shraddha and offering water to deceased ancestors etc, the ancestors of such people (who do not perform Shraddha) have to reside in the Hell region. This results in stagnation and no progress of the descendants.(?)

Dear Sunder Rajan,
According to Vedas, Shradham’ is observed for three reasons:
1) To express our gratitude and respect to the departed elders who had given us the great culture.
2) To bring harmony and unity among the family members with the feeling that those elders had sacrificed their lives for preserving our culture (which respect elders). To maintain unity among family members and they should meet once in a year at one place.
3) To remember that if we don’t do Sadhana to dissolve our mind with Paramathma-(Chaithanyam, the Lord in us) we (the mind-Jeevathma) will take another birth. As long as mind is not merging with God, such a departed soul (mind ) is called ”Prethathma”.
Understand, each mind has to do Sadhana to reach God, refer Bhagavatham story of Dundukari; his brother observed hundreds of Gaya Shradham.Even then, he didn’t get salvation!
When he heard Bhagavtham and did the Sadhana, he got transformed and liberated.
HariOm!
