Dear Swamiji, I have a bit of confusion as I start to practice breathing exercise and meditation. I am not able to differentiate between the two. Swamiji talked about pranayam, meditation and devotion. When one does pranayam, I am not able to remember the steps of pranayam? Similarly, when practicing meditaion, what do we tell our mind. I remember swamiji saying when breathing out one should chant “OM”. What about breathing in? I am not able to recall what to do while doing both. Thank u so much for letting me ask the question. Dear Sreeja,
Practise Pranayam with guidance only!
If you are not sure of the process, please do deep breathing exercises.
When you inhale, take a long and deep breath and when you exhale, a long breath out along with chanting “AUM”.
Please understand that meditation is not a process, but our SAHAJ nature, where we are fully in awareness each and every moment.
As a child, we were in that state!
Now, in order to get back to that state, we have to practise meditation on a timely basis, say, for twenty minutes, once or twice a day
(until we are settled in that unshakeable awareness and peacefulness state).
There are many methods for meditation;
to start with, you can sit in Sukhasan (with closed eyes), chant AUM three times with long breath and silently observe your breaths for some time.
Remember, meditation is an effortless state, so just ignore all your thoughts and sensations.
Keep the focus on incoming and outgoing breaths only!
Let the mind be filled with gratitude and offer yourself as the Dasa of the Lord, accepting every thing as HIS Prasad!
Now slowly and gradually open your eyes!
If you practise this for a few months, you can see the positive change in your life!
