There is a view among some people that after death the departed soul will no longer have any connection with the surviving relatives (kindly refer the story of king Chitraketu and his son in Sreemadbhagavatham) . Is this true? If so, how does performing ‘shraadha’, tharpanam etc. help the departed soul which might have even taken a new birth? Kindly clarify.
