Dear Varadrajan,
First thing you have to learn is that the mind can either think about God or it canforget God. Can you ever say how many times you have forgotten God? If you can find it out, you can find answer to your question too. So, instaed of finding out answer to a difficult question, learn to remember God that is the solution to all the problems.
