Hi Swamiji, I have read a lot of books that state to create goals and chart out a plan on how to achieve them. I honestly dont know what I want to achieve. I know there are many of our friends out here who have similar opinions like me. I am now 39 years old and working in a software company as a project lead. While I am happy that God has given me all this, at the same time I am not sure of what is that I want to really pursue. Why is it that some people know what they want and some do not know at all. I have seen that if you have a goal, it becomes easy as you know what you want. You only need to know how to get it, but if I dont know what goal to pursue, I feel I am wasting my life. I do have many questions which I will ask one by one. Can you reply to me on this.

Dear Sajiv,
Your desires are determined by your Vasanas.
If you enjoy what you do and if it is helpful for yourself and others, you are not wasting your time.
Usually people talk about “goal setting” in a materialistic perspective.
It refers to good academic education, getting a good job, getting married, bringing up children, owning a home and owning vehicles.
That is “I”ness and “My”ness!
It seldom refers to purifying your mind and intellect or Nishkama Karma!
It never refers to the contribution you give to the society for a greater cause!
For those who have materialistic desires to fulfill, let them accomplish it through systematic planning.
Once they are satisfied in that level, the true urge for ETERNAL happiness begins.
You can never be truly happy unless and until you realize your own Self!
With a clear, relaxed and meditative mind only, you can know what you want at each moment!
