why is it said that we should neither go to temple nor light nilavilakku in the 15 days after a death?

Dear Silpa,
In our Indian tradition, we used to allow the mind to feel and experience the pain to the maximum, when a death occurred in the family. All kinds of celebrations and social events are avoided to immerse themselves completely into that experience.
It is inferred that the mind cannot hold on to the same degree of grief beyond a certain time.
During this time, they listen to Satsangs and Holy Texts and realize the eternity of life in spite of the physical death!
So, people observe mourning for 16 days and then feast and come back to life once again!
