Swamiji, I have been viewing your Bhagavatam discourse on Asianet regularly. One thing that is difficult to imbibe is that if we show detachment to all the material things in this world gradually I realise that we will be left with no interest in life and our near and dear ones also wouldnt like us to be totally detached. Is it initially painful to detach yourself from material things?

Dear Geethaji,
Detachment does not mean that you have to keep everything away.
The real meaning is, not allowing the mind to attach to any disturbance or negative thoughts by detaching, diverting and engaging with positive thoughts.
The real detachment is not a physical quality but mental quality.
