Guruji, One of my friend asked one question, He gave an explanation, But I want to know confirm it from you.Here goes the question “Why is the Deepastamban(Velaku) in temples built on top of Tortoise? I have been going to temple for years, lighting that, but never I had that question, until it was brought up by my friend.

Dear Rakenth,
Tortoise symbolizes our mind. Mind can entertain worldly as well as Godly thoughts. When we entertain worldly thoughts, it is like the tortoise extending its limbs outside. When we concentrate on Godly thoughts by chanting Namasankeerthanam then it is like the tortoise withdrawing the limbs inward.So it is expected from our devotees that we should not think any thing other than Namasankeerthanam inside the temple.
