Dear Sugathanji,
When you wake up from sleep, your day starts.
Think, who gives you the awareness?
Who is thinking, deciding, expressing, and experiencing all these functions?
All these belong to the mind.
In deep sleep, there is no thinking, expressing and experiencing because mind is absent.
Now the question is, who holds the mind in the body?
If it is by the body, then mind should remain even after death in the body, but it is not so.
Then who is keeping the mind?
There our realized Masters say, it is God (conscius energy) that is holding the mind in the body.
So, according to all our Masters, the mind is the manifested conscious energy (or Paramathma) in the form of consciousness(thoughts). This is called Jeevathma.
