Koti pranam Swamiji, My brother-in-law expried recently. When he was alive he had not used costly things and he was simple. For ex. he used to spent for his chappal around Rs.100/- to Rs.150/-. However, when he expired in our rituals we have to give many dhanam on the 12th day viz. chappal, gold, silver etc. and spent lots of money saying that it will reach to him. When he was alive he had not spent lavishly and after his death costly chappal has been given as dhana whcih could not understand. Our hindu rituals says that by doing shraddham his atma will get shanti. Is body is not ‘I’ and Atma is GOD then why should Atma get shanti. Till one year we should not go to temple. Swamiji i am very disturbed and confused. please advice my each query. Koti pranam Swamiji

Dear Saraswathyji,
This is the common problem with Hindus. As they have no clarity and conviction, any body can fool them with such promises.
Remember, it is said, when you are in doubt, please refer to the Shastras.
Please study our Scriptures carefully and see if our Masters have mentioned these things any where.
(If you ask me, I have never read any thing like you said in our holy Texts).
