Dear Mini,
They never did any worship on any idol, it is said Rama did the “prathishta” and pooja of Siva at Rameswaram, but there is no proof for it. It is not mentioned in the Ramayanam too.
Krishana always teaches “meditate on Atma, that is the real pooja”; so study the Scriptures, you can understand that the idol worship is told only to develop concentration and confidence for the beginners.
