We have been conducting rituals for our family members who depart from earth for ages. When we believe in the concept of rebirth we assume the departed souls have taken another form according to their karma. So when we perform these rituals ( including the annual sradhakarmas ) for all our ancestors how will these prayers reach them when they have already taken birth by then in someother forms. We have been seeing the same in our epics case in point is when Srirama performed the rites for dasaratha and Sri krishna directed others to perform the rituals for Kamsa. Please advice

Dear Krishnamoorthyji,
I have answered this question many times. Tharpan or Shradha Karmam is meant for paying gratitude to our ancestors and re-ensuring our commitment to the values they have transferred to us. They can not uplift a departed soul.
