Dear Yathish,
The purpose of mantra is refreshing the mind from our worldly involvement and uniting the mind with the Godly presence. When we live a worldly life only, our mind gathers all the expectations and excitements, guilty consciousness, regrets, arrogance etc. All this can disturb our sleep and our further performance. So we should learn from a tortoise which can extend its limbs and withdraw them as needed. When we want to involve in the world, we should involve without expectation and excitement. When we withdraw from the world we should make our mind free from the positive and negative aspects of our actions. This is achieved through “mantra japam”. When you do it with sincere involvement your mind will be free from the worldly thoughts and it will unite your mind with the God within (Chaithanyam). So as you live, it leads you to peace and harmony.
