Beyond the senses is the mind, beyond the mind is the intellect, beyond the intellect is the great Atman, Beyond the great Atman is the unmanifested (Avyaktam). Beyond the unmanifested is Purusha, all-pervading and devoid all distinctive marks. He who knows Him is liberated and obtains Immortality(Kathopanishad). Swamiji, what did the ‘great Atman’ and ‘Avyaktam(unmanifest)’ mentioned here meant?

Dear Vasusdevan,
Beyond the body, the sensual organs are more subtle and powerful. Beyond the mind is the powerful intellect and beyond that is the memory. Beyond that is the ‘I” consciousness or ego. Ego can awaken, memorise, express …. only when the Chaithanyam functions through this body. Avyaktham is the ego and Atman is the Chaithanyam.
