dear swamiji, what is ego,can we live forgetting our ego,can we live without an identity, even though it is a thing coming and going daily, can we live without thoughts ,can we see a person as conscious energy forgetting his identity?,to live in this world we need an identity, even though we know it is not permanent

Dear Sarojiniji,
Identity is the label you give to yourself in terms of your relations with others.
It is not your identity that troubles you, but your attachment or identification with your identity that gives problems to you.
For example, if you are a mother, loving your son is natural and good.
But being very possessive and restricting all others from loving him, is giving more importance to your identity as his mother.
Remember, you are not playing a single role, but various roles in life.
When you are dispassionate, you can play all roles well, while keeping your mind focussed on the Lord.
Such a mind never worries about the world and expects nothing from others.
For them, the identities are not hard-cored, but like the various dresses that one wears and discards.
Your mind is greater than all the identities you assume to have. In deep meditation, all identities dissolve.
