Yes, that is partially true.
Before foreigners interpreted, Lord Krishna has explained the meaning of many Sanskrit words in Gita.
Then many, many, mahatmas contributed but Germans started translating to other languages.
Today, it is our duty is to spread our culture and interpret it in a scientific way.
