Dear Swamiji, In today’s (03.08.09) Bhagavatam telecast, you mentioned about Dhruv pracrisng Ashtanga Yoga. The Bhagavatam, the Bhagavat Gita, the Narayaneeyam, the Yoga Vasishta, Adi Sankara’s Aparokshanubhuti, all mention about practising Ashtanga Yoga for realizing the Self (Brahman). Is not it enough that one practises only the Ashtanga Yoga without confusing oneself with all the stories mentioned in the other scriptures ? Respectful regards. E Vishwa Nathan

Dear Vishwa Nathan,
All the sadhanas are meant for mental purification for developing a well balanced mind. Only a balanced mind can fully focus and surrender to the Supreme Self (Chaithanyam). Ashtanga Yoga also helps you to attain the same (Chitthavrithi nirodha is Yoga). The same can be easily achieved through the proper understanding of life through the stories of Bhagavatham. We can understand the purpose of life and teh way one should live. This helps him to attain a balanced mind.
