Sradham is observed not for the benefit of departed souls but for three reasons.
First, to keep harmony among the family members.
Second, to express our homage and respect to the departed for their contributions to our culture and heritage.
Third, to educate our self that our body too will be lost one day and before that one should uplift our mind to God.
