Dear Radhaji,
Our ancestors were very intelligent that they allotted one tree, one bird etc to every human.
This was meant to make us honour at least one specific bird to start with.
Thus the habit of honouring every thing in creation was gradually developed in our minds.
Moreover, eating non-veg is not healthy for human beings.
