Dear Respected Swamiji, Myself and my family are blessed to have attended the last day of Bhagavata Sapthaham, in Maryland in Sri Siva Vishnu Temple, in August, 2013. One of my friends, Dr. Krishna Kumar, informed me about the event. Later, I came to you after the concluding ceremony and wanted to ask a question. I started explaining the background of the question when some one else came in and diverted your attention. This question has been in my mind for a long time. The question is why our ancient acharyas, while focusing their entire energy on developing techniques for spiritual exploration, never focused on developing scientific or engineering technologies ? For example, Sayanacharya had mentioned that sun light travels 2202 yojanas in half a nimesha which is close to the velocity of light measured scientifically presumably in last century. The current remote sensing techniques uses this knowledge extensively. Like that there are several examples. Bhagavan Sri Veda Vyasa’s Navagraha Manthras are other exmaples, I guess. I had contacted, Sri Nanda Nandana Dasa of Michigan (Stephen Knapp, ISKCON) with this question. The answer I received presumably meant that it was due to foreign invasion that further exploration did not take place. But I had difficulty in agreeing with that opinion. The only logical answer that I am getting is, that our ancient acharyas never wanted to disturb the nature for the sake of luxury, money or any worldly pleasures. Probably they knew there is immense immeasurable pleasure in realizing GOD. Also, the yogic techniques that our ancient Acharays developed were sufficient to explore the entire Universe without having to depend on scientific or engineering technologies. For example, our greatly respected Acharya Sir Shankaracharya could establish mathas on four diametrically opposite frontiers of Bharat. Sri Shankaracharya might have accomplished this not by walking from one place to the other, but might have used some other yogic techniques to move from one place to the other. Am I correct ?
