I am a regular listener of your discourses on TV. I am unable to digest what is given in the following mail. I would request for some clarification. WHO is BRAHMIN? LORD KRISHNA ANSWERS (Excerpts from the English book ‘THE GREAT HINDU TRADITION’) The conversation between Sri Yudhishtra and Sri Krishna Paramatma on Braahmanyam would be worth a glance here. This is contained in the 96th and 97th chapters of the Aswamedika Parva- one out of the eighteen parvas. Asks Yudhishtra: Kesava! Janardhana! Who is a Brahmin?What is his true character? Sri Krishna: Listen to Me, Oh, Yudhishtra! Great one among the ardent followers of dharma! It is they: * who have tuft, who wear Yajyopaveeta, * who worship Agni, * who love their spouse, * who recite Vedas, * who worship Devi Gayatri through performing Sandhyavandana * who perform their duties towards guests and * who perform pitru karmas with devotion… Oh King, Pandava, listen to me further. Even if one were to be a Brahmin by birth and were to be highly accomplished, I will consider their life a mere waste if they * do not perform Deva karmas, * are greedy, * have no love for their spouse, * discriminate while serving food, * show disrespect to their mother, father or Guru * do not perform Sandhyavandana, * do not respect the words of father-in-law and mother-in-law, * earn their living by usury, * are impostors * and neglect their nitya karmas

It is not that easy to interpret our Scriptures, one has to go very deep into the mythology and discover the philosophy. Merely following the rituals or courtesy will not make you a Brahmin. But the one who experiences the Brahmam is naturally lovable and adored by all. HariOm!

Dear swamiji, I am suffering from a mental problem called Obsessive compulsive disorder. I am trying to overcome it with the support of my husband ,meditation etc. Psychiatrists parayunnu ithine verode pizhutheriyaan pattilya ennu.. is that true? My husband says it can be completely cured if I continue to meditate. psychiatrists believe that it is impossible because the western people cannot think beyond the mind. his words give me confidence. just wanted to know your opinion on such mental issues which dont have permanent cure as per the medical experts

Dear Lakshmyji, Your husband is right. No psychiatrist could ever change the world for better, but Masters like Sri Budha, Adi Sankara and Swami Vivekananda could. So, follow their wisdom, do Pranayama, AUM chanting and meditation. Understand, past is the disease, so live in the present. HariOm!

Is the time of your death pre determined? Can anyone change it?

Death is not pre-determined, but a phenomenon that happens constantly. That is the Viswaroopa Darsan of the Lord where creation and dissolution happens eternally. People with body consciousness feels death only when a body drops. But Jnanis know the eternal true nature of the Self. HariOm!

Pranam Swamiji, My daughter is in 9th std. She got some personality disorders, as she don’t have any friends in her age group. She never do any work without forcing. If say do this do that continuously after her she will artificially do like a doll. Her marks also very low. In front of me she studies, she behave neatly, but in my absence she will repeat all her bad habits. If we scold she will say sorry, next time I will not repeat, but situation comes she will do mistakes. She make so many excuses with blaming others. According to your last advise she is doing meditation 30 minutes evening , that also I have to push her to do. What can I do ? can I change her ? She is very lazy. Can we change these kind of people please tell me what I can do ? Nancy

Do not keep advising her and try to discover her positive qualities. Appreciate them and inspire her. Arrange a Satsang atmosphere at home and meetings with noble people. She will definitely improve her attitude. HariOm!

Is anything possible ? If yes, then how, why the world didn’t changed?

Poojya Swamiji, Enthralled day by day listening your discourse. one doubt is that you mentioned disease like cancer and so on is the reason of a weak mind. But great saints like Ramana Maharshi succumbed to this . Why is it so ?
